The app you can suggest after the visit

Carbsnap turns meal photos into estimated carbs, calories, protein, and fat in seconds — so patients can practice real-world estimating between appointments. Core estimates stay free; optional paid features support patients who want structured logging.

Carbsnap supports education and self-management. It is not a substitute for medical nutrition therapy or your clinical judgment.

Why it belongs in your toolkit

Patients don’t eat from databases. Carbsnap meets them at the plate — mixed meals, dining out, and home cooking — where manual lookup is slow and scales aren’t always practical.

Immediate, meal-level feedback

A photo yields estimated macros in seconds — useful for building awareness without turning every meal into a search task.

Reinforces what you teach

Pairs naturally with conversations about portions, patterns, and goals — your MNT plan stays the frame; Carbsnap is practice in the wild.

Grounded in serious research

Our work has been presented in peer-facing forums — see the ADA Scientific Sessions poster (PDF). Estimates support learning and discussion, not autonomous dosing decisions.

What patients get: free vs. Plus

Two clear tiers — set expectations once, and patients aren’t surprised in the app.

Always free: AI estimates

Photo-based estimates of carbohydrates, calories, protein, and fat — no subscription required.

  • No barcode hunt required to get a starting estimate.
  • Works for diabetes education, wellness goals, or skill-building.

Carbsnap Plus: logging & goals

For patients who want ongoing tracking, Plus adds tools built on top of those estimates.

  • Save meals, see the day at a glance, and track toward daily macro targets.
  • Trial, pricing, and terms are shown in the stores and in-app.

Scope & safety

Share these points when you recommend Carbsnap so patients use it as intended.

  • Not a medical device. Carbsnap does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease; it provides estimates for education and self-management.
  • Estimates are approximate. Results depend on the photo, lighting, and portion ambiguity. Numbers are starting points for conversation — not precise prescriptions for insulin or medication changes without your input.
  • Your plan leads. Targets, medications, and follow-up remain between the patient and the care team. Carbsnap does not replace individualized MNT.
  • Privacy. Point patients to in-app disclosures and your published privacy policy if they ask how data is handled.

You stay at the center

Carbsnap works best when patients bring what they’re seeing to you — and you interpret it alongside labs, meds, comorbidities, and the goals you set together.
